Priopćenje MVEP-a povodom općih izbora u Republici Srbiji
The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP) released a statement on March 30, 2022, concerning the general elections in Serbia on April 3, 2022. The MVEP encourages the Croatian community in Serbia to participate in the elections for the President, National Assembly, and Belgrade City Assembly. Special emphasis is placed on supporting the list featuring Tomislav Žigmanov of the Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina, which is backed by legitimate Croatian political representatives and institutions. The statement highlights that securing parliamentary status is crucial for the involvement of the Croatian minority in political processes affecting their cultural heritage, institutional development, property rights, and access to EU pre-accession funds. The MVEP stresses the need for unity among Croats for a better electoral outcome and improved political status, particularly in light of Serbia's non-compliance with the 2005 bilateral agreement on the mutual protection of national minorities. The Croatian government reiterates its commitment to the agreement's implementation and emphasizes good neighborly relations and the rule of law as essential for EU accession. Croatia pledges to continue cooperating with Croatian political representatives and providing support to the community to preserve its national identity and cultural heritage.
