Successful Blood Donation Drive by MUP and 'Ana Rukavina' Foundation Expands Bone Marrow Registry
On February 8, 2008, the Ministry of Interior (MUP) and the 'Ana Rukavina' Foundation held their 11th joint humanitarian blood donation drive in Rijeka. The event, aimed at expanding the Registry of Voluntary Bone Marrow Donors, saw 138 people donate blood. The initiative was supported by numerous associations, including veterans' groups, sports organizations, NK Rijeka, and the local police department. Milan Pemper, advisor to the Minister of the Interior, highlighted that around 1200 MUP employees have joined the registry through these campaigns. Ana Marija Galli Godinić from the Foundation emphasized the critical need to grow the registry, as the chance of finding a match is 1 in 100,000, and the number of leukemia patients in Croatia increases by 15% annually, predominantly young people. Local officials from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the City of Rijeka also expressed their support and commitment to organizing future events. The next joint action is scheduled for February 28 in the Lika-Senj Police Administration.
